Running a female-owned CBD brand in the cannabis industry is not for the faint of heart. In fact, according to Market Watch, the number of women in senior ranks of cannabis companies fell from 36.8% in 2019 to 22.1% in 2021. We feel fortunate to be doing what we’re doing in our home state of Texas, and are grateful to reflect such a strong and diverse team of women helping us lead the charge and trail-blaze a path forward for other women to join in the movement. So, in celebrating International Women’s Day, we asked our team a few questions.
From our founders to our awesome budtenders, they’re sharing their favorite product, why, and what it means to be a woman in cannabis.

To this day, I take CBD oil pretty much daily and consider it an integral part of managing my day-to-day wellness.
What makes you feel empowered as a woman in cannabis?
Cannabis is a female plant! So naturally, I feel pulled towards it even though it’s been a male-dominated industry. I appreciate the opportunity to do what we do building, educating, and advocating with RESTART because I hope my journey can inspire other women to look at cannabis in a more fond light and that they too might begin to see themselves in the plant for the beautiful and healing properties it has.

It’s one of our newer products but as a former collegiate athlete who remains extremely active, I love the benefits of this oil as a “pre-workout” to enhance my workouts!
What makes you feel empowered as a woman in cannabis?
This isn’t an industry I ever thought I’d find myself in especially with the way people treated cannabis even just 10 years ago… I am so proud of what my team and I have accomplished in these last 4-years but we continue to break that stigma, and prove you can be a strong female leader and also consume cannabis!

Elektra helps me stay grounded and relaxed throughout the day, but still leaves me feeling functional, productive, and creative.
What makes you feel empowered as a woman in cannabis?
I feel empowered as a woman in cannabis because my family and I built this business from nothing, from the ground up. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to openly share our passion for such a taboo plant (especially in Texas), and together we’re working every day to break the stigma against cannabis!

Honestly, I love marijuana very much, but I am NOT a functional stoner. I keep my CBD vape nearby during the day to aid my anxiety and ease any coffee high.
What makes you feel empowered as a woman in cannabis?
It feels amazing to help guide people through such a misconstrued plant; as we learn and study this plant, we are looked at to have the answers. Of course, we are not doctors, so we might not know everything… but when we have the answers, it’s a very self-fulfilling experience to know that we as a team are a part of the change.

They are super easy to consume, and the dosage is low, so the effects are not too overwhelming. What I love most about the mints is that if you want to feel a more recreational effect, you can definitely take more!
What makes you feel empowered as a woman in cannabis?
I love breaking the stigma that only men know about cannabis, it truly makes me happy working around other women who are so educated and passionate about the plant as well. I hope in the future there is more inclusivity regardless of gender or race as more people are becoming passionate about cannabis too!

I am the true definition of a night owl, and because of that- I tend to have a more challenging time falling asleep at a reasonable hour. The only thing that seems to work for me is my Delta 8 + CBN combo, which even helps me stay asleep when my mind wants to wander.
