THE ABC's of CBD

CBD 101

If you are new to CBD or simply canna curious, education is one of our core values. We are here to help guide you on your journey to this plant-based wellness. Our CBD 101 guide below is a great place to start learning CBD works with our endocannabinoid system. If you have medical questions, check out Leaf411 a cannabis nurse staffed hotline we partnered with to provide alternative resources to our customers and canna curious community.

THE BASICS

CBD (also known as Cannabidiol) is one of about 120 cannabinoids found in the hemp plant. CBD isn’t psychoactive, and has been studied for it’s wide range of benefits for the body and mind.

With CBD, you get all the health benefits from cannabis without the high. CBD is simply an active chemical compound, or cannabinoid, that’s found in the cannabis plant. read more

How is hemp different than marijuana? Unlike marijuana, hemp contains extremely low (less than 0.3%) THC. THC is the compound in marijuana that is psychoactive and makes you feel high.

CBD is not a pharmaceutical, meaning it won’t interfere with any other medications.  In fact, some studies have shown that CBD can enhance the effectiveness of other medications, such as pain killers.

RESTART CBD is extracted from organically grown Oregon hemp grown and will contain zero to <0.3% THC.

  6. If I smoke marijuana, don’t I already get enough CBD?
  7. Can you get high off CBD? CBD doesn’t have the same ability to create a “high” or state of euphoria as marijuana or THC. CBD may help you feel relaxed or less anxious, but you won’t get high if you choose to use a CBD-infused oil, edible, CBD Flower or other product.

CBD products activate your Endocannabinoid System (ECS).

WHAT IS YOUR ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM?

The endocannabinoid system regulates a wide variety of physiological processes, such as memory, mood and appetite. While ingesting CBD elicits an interaction with our internal receptors, it does so in ways that are quite unique to each individual – which is to say – the effects CBD has on you may differ from the effects it has on others.

These differences speak to the complexity of our own physiological processes and current state of wellness. With this in mind, we encourage people to experiment and listen to their own bodies. Different products combined with different ingestion methods will contribute to the effect it has on you. Other naturally occurring compounds found in hemp, like terpenes, also factor in to the equation. Thankfully, we provide detailed lab reports as well as suggested use guidelines with each of our products so you can monitor exactly how much CBD you’re intaking.

Interestingly, CBD is really just the tip of the iceberg in terms of exploring the effects of other cannabinoids. We are really excited to explore other cannabinoids to see what types of health benefits they may have. In addition to CBD products, RESTART CBD offers CBG, CBN, CBC and Delta 8 products.

For more information on terminology such as terpenes, hemp, full spectrum, broad spectrum and more, visit our post on CBD for Dummies.

What happens when the ECS is activated? It’s the only time 2-way communication (homeostasis) is happening within the body.  When taking CBD, the body is able to tell the brain exactly where it’s needing more help and assistance.

CBD has the ability to aid those suffering from several ailments, and it’s even useful for healthy people in everyday living. As users continue to report its beneficial therapeutic effects, it’s fair to say that hemp-derived CBD is good for the human body.

Keep in mind, many of these studies are done in test tubes, Petri dishes, or with animals, and their conclusions do not necessarily mean they will have the same effects or benefits for humans.

Considering cannabis research is happening at such a rapid rate, it is also best to read studies that are less than five year old.

  10. Is hemp oil the same as CBD oil? CBD oil and hemp oil come from different parts of the cannabis plant. CBD oil uses the whole plant, while hemp oil comes from its seeds which contain no CBD. CBD oil is made from a variety of parts of the mature hemp plant but primarily from the flowers. The result is an oil with a high CBD content.

There is no fixed recipe or dose when it comes to using CBD oils. What might work for you might not work for someone else. Since we are all biochemically exclusive, it’s best to experiment with a variety of CBD products.  Pay  attention to your body, and find the “personal product and dose” that work most optimally for you.

GUIDELINES

  1. The hemp plant usually contains less than 1% THC, and to be federally legal it must contain less than 0.3%.  It cannot get you “high.”
  2. The marijuana plant usually contains more than 1% THC, the cannabinoid that will get you “high.”

Used consistently, CBD may prevent and manage ailments. All in all, it takes about 3-4 months for your body to reach a healthy new equilibrium.

Its effects, however, assume regular use at an effective serving.

You can consume CBD in different forms that fit your lifestyle.

  • For consumers that are new to CBD oils RESTART CBD offers sublingual oils that start at 20mg per mL and go up to 120mg per mL.  RESTART CBD Oils use C02 extraction, they are NOT tinctures that use alcohol extraction.
  • CBD Gel capsules are available from 10mg to 50mg per capsule.
  • CBD-infused edibles, CBD gummies, mints, gum, lollipops, snacks and beverages are also available.
  • CBD Topicals, including roll-ons, salves, creams and healing oils.
  • High strength CBD hemp flower and vape products.

TYPES OF Cannibinoids

FULL SPECTRUM CBD (CANNABIDIOL) products contain multiple cannabis plant extracts, including essential oils, terpenes, and other cannabinoids. They also contain up to 0.3% THC (tetrahydrocannabinol,) the cannabinoid in the cannabis plant that produces the ‘high’ feeling in people. However, such a low amount is not strong enough to have significant psychoactive effects.

BROAD SPECTRUM CBD is very similar to full-spectrum CBD in that it contains additional cannabis plant compounds. Most broad-spectrum CBD products have zero or trace amounts of THC.

PURE CBD is the purest form of CBD. It contains no other cannabis plant compounds and contains NO THC.  It may be a suitable product for first-time CBD users who wish to experiment with the potential health benefits, without the interference of other cannabis compounds, which may alter the effects.

CBC (CANNABICHROMENE) is classified as one of the ‘big six’ of cannabinoids. CBC is also non-intoxicating, like CBD. CBC has shown very strong potential for providing therapeutic benefits, including for inflammation, stem/progenitor cell function and mood.

CBN (CANNABINOL) has been demonstrated to have an array of therapeutic benefits especially in terms of sedative and body relaxation properties.

CBD PLUS FOR SLEEP makes bed time YOUR time.  Our unique terpene-based formula provides for improved restfulness without melatonin or THC.

CBG (CANNABIGEROL) may help with those who struggle to get a better sleep. Stress-related disorders all contribute to the lack of sleep. There has been much CBG research showing eye support, bone growth, and so much more.

RAW UNREFINED CBD is the rawest, most potent CBD on the market. Made of 100% unrefined full-spectrum CBD.

You should be careful when purchasing CBD products. Items with a THC-free label may still contain traces of the compound and even small amounts may show up in a drug test.

SUMMARY:

  • Research suggests the entourage effect may increase the effects of full-spectrum and broad-spectrum CBD products.
  • People may want to try Pure CBD, especially if they want a product that is THC-free.
  • Unregulated CBD markets may mean that THC is still present in trace amounts, even if labels claim their product is THC-free.
  • All cannabinoids have their advantages. People should try different products and doses to find what works best for them, and always carefully read labels before buying them and discuss using CBD with a doctor or healthcare provider.
  • However, more research is needed on the health benefits and effects of all cannabinoid types.

  6. Right now, delta-8 is flying relatively under the radar. A lesser version than delta-9 in the psychoactive department, it still seemingly offers great medical benefits, and just enough psychoactive abilities to feel good. Delta-8 might be the answer the medical world is looking for when it comes to a milder form of cannabis that can still get the job done.
